Mission of the Department: Establishment of a strong and vibrant Cooperative Sector and to promote the Cooperative Societies as peoples Institution for the economic & social betterment.
Acts Being Governed:
- The Assam Cooperative Societies Act, 2007 (Act IV of 2012).
- Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management Act, 2010.
- Warehousing Corporation Act, 1962.
- The Assam Cooperative Land Mortgage Bank Act, 1960.
- The Assam Money Lenders Act, 1934.
Functions of the Cooperation Department:
- To appoint the Registrar of Cooperative Societies for registration, supervision, assistance, counsel and for all round development of the cooperative movement in the state.
- To appoint officers to assist the Registrar of cooperative Societies, Assam.
- To depute officers in a cooperative society, on application supported by the BOD of the cooperative society, to manage the affairs of the cooperative society.
- To appoint the Chief Executive of a cooperative society.
- To grant loan, take share or guarantee the principal or the interest or both in respect of debentures issued by any cooperative society or give financial assistance in any other form to any cooperative society.
- To maintain a panel of Chartered Accountants to audit the accounts of registered cooperative societies.
- To grant remission of certain duties/fees etc. to a cooperative society and class of cooperative societies as per Section 79 of the Assam Cooperative Societies Act, 2017.
